Jamie Knop is from a village called Hartford in Cheshire Northwest England but now resides in the nearest city to him, Chester.
Back home Jamie knew little about photography but whilst studying Multimedia Studies at the University of Chester found a new passion in his life, photography. For Jamie this meant changing his course of study from Multimedia single Honors to combined Multimedia with Photography studying for a Bachelor of Arts with Honours and is currently in his final year of study.
From Jamie’s first year of study his projects mainly consisted of street photography, interested in the structures that make up the streets and how they differ from street corner to street corner. This lead him into his second year directly looking at architectural structures, and what fascinated him was the changes in many ‘traditional’ style buildings for instance the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral and the Anglican cathedral. Jamie looks at buildings as if they were a piece of art, taking into account the size, materials used and shape of the building when he is photographing the subject.
To get the most out of his images Jamie now uses a 4x5 large format camera system. How ever Jamie’s technique has changed over the years using various formats for his subjects. Currently working with a 4x5 camera but also uses digital from time to time. Some of Jamie’s work has included a technique called HDR, he has used it to add a menacing effect to some of his work which you can view in the gallery.
